Chapter X of Republic Act No. 7942 (Philippine Mining Act of 1995) provides that ‘the Contractor shall assist in the development of its mining community, the promotion of the general welfare of its inhabitants and the development of science and mining technology;’ It mandates that the Project must set aside a minimum of one percent of the mining and milling cost annually, 10% of which shall be allocated for the development of mining technology and geosciences and 90% shall be appropriated for the implementation of the SDMP, as well as the corresponding manpower training and development.

Development of Mining Community

The Contractor /Permit Holder/ Lessee shall assist in the development  of the host and neighboring communities in accordance to its Social Development and Management  Program (SMDP) to promote the general welfare of the inhabitants living therein.

Development of Mining  Technology and Geosciences

The Contractor /Permit Holder/ Lessee shall develop a program  for the advancement of Mining Technology and Geosciences (MTGD)  to build up resources and mineral discoveries improve operational efficiency and resource recovery and enhance environmental protection and mine safety.

Public Awareness and Education on Mining  and Geosciences

The Contractor /Permit Holder/ Lessee shall develop and institutionalize an Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Program for greater  public awareness and understanding of responsible mining and geosciences.

Budget Allocation

The contractor Permit Holder Lessee shall allot  annually  a minimum of 1.5% of the operating costs necessary to implement SDMP mining technology and geosciences development and IEC.
