Feeding Program

Together with the Dios Mabalos Po Foundation (DMPF) with Pondo ng Pinoys Hapag-Asa Feed the Children Program, the General PTA of Rapu-Rapu, and the Department of Education of the Province of Albay, the CDAP of RRPP implemented an in-school feeding program in the elementary schools from grades one to six throughout the whole municipality of Rapu-Rapu during the periods of mid-October 2006 to mid-January 2007. This program makes it one, if not the biggest, in-school feeding program in the Albay Province undertaken by a private company. Baseline data showed that more than half or 54 per cent of all elementary school children in the Municipality of Rapu-Rapu) were found to be undernourished, with 23 per cent to be low to severely undernourished. The three-month feeding program reached a total of 6,727 children and decreased the number of malnourished children by 25 per cent. As a result of the feeding program, the childrens academic performance dramatically improved as attested to by their teachers and absenteeism was drastically reduced. In line with the Millennium Development Goal of eradicating poverty and hunger, and as a response to the demands of educators, parents, and local officials, RRPP has committed to continue this program with the goal of minimizing malnourishment among the children of Rapu-Rapu.
