The Emergency Response Plan includes major emergencies and appropriate response mechanisms. Since 2005, the project has strengthened its emergency Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and these were tested when the strongest typhoon to hit the area in decades ravaged the island but left the major environmental structures such as the tailings dam, mine pit, and waste dump intact. The project also sustained zero injuries at that time, allowing it to reach 4 million man hours without Lost Time Accident (LTA) in April 2009.
