Project Site

Rapu-Rapu Island, Batan Island and Guinayan Island make up the Municipality of Rapu-Rapu, located 55km east of Legazpi City, the capital of Albay Province. The municipality has a total area of 174.7km2.

The Project is located in the southwest of Rapu-Rapu Island spanning the three barangay of Pagcolbon, Malobago and Binosawan. These three barangays are designated as the Direct Impact Areas (DIA) of the Project. The designated Indirect Impact Areas are Linao, Santa Barbara and Tinopan.

The Project occupies a total area of 180ha of which approximately 26ha is taken up by the open pit. The pit is within barangay Pagcolbon, as are some other Project facilities are within barangay Malobago.

The pit is excavated into a ridge trending east west at an altitude of approximately 200m. A series of small creeks drain east and south to the sea. The two creeks (Catmon and Maypajo) in which tailing/ waste storage facilities are constructed are the only ones of much more than one kilometer in total length. The area is of moderate rolling to steep slopes. There are relatively precipitous slopes in the east where the Catmon and Maypajo join the sea and also to the south near malobago.
