FMRDP

RRPP upholds to its commitment of protecting the environment and rehabilitating its mine areas.

In June 2007, the first planning workshop on Final Mine Rehabilitation and Decommissioning Plan (FMRDP) was held on site by BMP Environment and Community Care, Inc. This was attended by the RRMI key personnel and heads of the direct impact barangays.  Soil and vegetation experts also conducted an assessment of the site for profiling to determine which type of vegetation will be most suitable for planting at the disturbed areas such as the waste dump and tailings dam.

The FMRDP is based on DENR Administration Order No. 2005-07 and Condition No. 20 of the Rapu-Rapu Project’s ECC. It identified two specific goals:

1) To prevent or eliminate long-term environmental impacts by returning mining disturbed land to a physically and chemically stable, visually acceptable, productive or self- sustaining condition, taking into consideration the beneficial uses of the land and the surrounding areas and as agreed with the stakeholders; and,

2) To ensure that alternative skills and sustainable livelihood opportunities are provided/ established and left behind to mine employees and their dependents and to the host and neighboring communities.

The FMRDP was submitted in December 2007 and had undergone some revisions based on the recommendations of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau. The Management has committed to pay Php  5.0 Million every month until the FMRDP is finally approved.

The project’s FMRDP includes the following components:

  • Decommissioning Plan
  • Final Mine Rehabilitation
  • Social Plan
  • Maintenance and Monitoring Plan

As of July 2011, the Project has a recent deposit of Php143.7 million for the FMRDP fund.
